STARLAB IN OTISVILLE

Posted May 17 at 12:00am

Starlab, a portable planetarium, came to Otisville Elementary School.  The school librarian, Ms. Sheerer, provided students with a variety of activities that prepared them to view the night sky as knowledgable astronomers.  Starlab was opened to the Otisville Elementary School Community in an evening event entitled, "An Evening Under the Stars" and was visited by an estimated 200 people.  The Otisville PTO supported this very worthy endeavor that had our elementary students looking forward to the darkness and celebrating the starry world above them.

THE QUEEN'S LAST BIRTHDAY

Posted April 23 at 12:36pm

Second grade students in Mrs. Bennington's class performed a play entitled, "The Queen's Last Birthday."  In the play, the Queen uses her influence to force townspeople to celebrate her birthday, many times over the course of a year, so she can acquire multitudes of birthday presents.   An honest traveling tinker teaches the townspeople to stand up for what is right.  At the end of the play, the Queen becomes a statue which is used as a reminder to tell the truth.  The students rehearsed lines, painted scenery, and chose costumes.  This type of engaging activity incorporates language arts skills, creativity, and character education lessons.  Encore!
