TROUT IN THE CLASSROOM

Mr. Conklin's fifth grade class has been involved in a program called Trout in the Classroom.  This program is designed to incorporate environmental studies into the classroom curriculum to integrate science, math, language arts, ecology and art.  Due to the generosity of our PTO, Mr. Conklin was able to purchase a chiller for his aquarium in order to properly raise trout.  The students see the trout through the eight stages of development, from egg to fingerling.  The final stage involves releasing the fingerlings into a DEC approved water source in the local area.  Through this ongoing project, students learn the importance of maintaining and protecting ecosystems.
