AFRICAN ART

Mrs. Fair’s fifth grade Art Workshop class created African Adire Eleko Cloths using a resist process on cotton fabric. Students created Nigerian designs on fabric then applied glue gel as a resist medium. The cloths were dyed cobalt blue. Each student created a hand-sewn pillow or wall hanging. We’d like to thank our PTO for providing a mini-grant to make this unit possible. Our Adire Eleko Cloths are on display near the cafeteria in the Minisink Intermediate School.

This project is a fine example of how the arts can help expand our students' knowledge and appreciation of other cultures.  Our teachers work hard to help our students make these important connections.
