Congratulations to the eight seniors pictured here with summer school principal, Michael Burns, for completing their coursework and receiving their diplomas in a moving ceremony Friday afternoon, August 17, 2007.  Speaking to the seniors were school board president, Ethel Crow, superintendent, Dr. Martha Murray, summer school principal, Michael Burns, and social studies teacher, Brian Lynn.  Each speaker mentioned perseverance, hard work, continual learning, and the love and support of friends and family as important keys to success.

Perhaps Mr. Burns said it best when he told the graduates, “Each element of our lives needs to be placed into its proper time. But even if we fail to do that, we can’t think of those failures as wasted time, as long as we take from them the lessons of the mistakes. On the first day of summer school, as you sat in the auditorium listening to me reviewing the rules, I said that summer school is one of life’s second chances, a do-over, a reset button.  Sometimes, though, I am not so sure if that is true. Maybe some of you … didn’t need a do-over.  Maybe you just needed more time to grow, to mature, to realize the truth.  Maybe you will realize that your time is now.”
