Congressman John Hall spoke for about an hour to our seniors in the high school media center on October 12, 2007.  He discussed the committees he works on in Congress and reviewed several of the bills he has sponsored and promoted.  He spoke at length about global warming and the importance of using renewable energy resources - wind, solar and tidal power. Since most audience members were seniors, he also covered the new College Cost Reduction Act.  It was important for our seniors to hear that when students graduate from college they can reduce their college loan debt by volunteering for public service as fire fighters, police officers, public defenders, early childhood educators, or rural school teachers.

Congressman Hall answered several questions from the seniors about the conservation of resources, Social Security, FEMA, and the Iraq War.  Lastly, he spoke candidly about how he made the change from singer-songwriter/musician to Congressman and his belief in citizen government.  He stated that it is every citizen’s right and duty to become involved in civic organizations or community volunteer work.  As the Congressman noted, "Democracy is a Participation Sport!"
