MINISINK VALLEY VOTERS APPROVE 2017-18 SCHOOL BUDGET


BUDGET AND BUS PURCHASE PROPOSITIONS APPROVED

On Tuesday, May 16, 2017, Minisink Valley Central School District voters approved the 2017-18 school budget, with 773 casting votes in favor of the $97.4 million spending plan and 200 opposed.

Voters also approved the bus purchase proposition by a vote of 721 to 246.


The results, announced shortly after polls closed, showed 79 percent of 973 total voters supported the budget. 

The approved budget calls for a spending increase of 1.39 percent and a 1.50 percent tax levy increase. It adds and reinstates new programs and positions and maintains all current programs and services designed to meet student needs and strengthen student support.

BOARD OF EDUCATION RESULTS

There were five candidates for four BOE seats on this year’s ballot. Three of the four are 3-year-terms commencing July 1 of this year and going through June 30, 2020. The seat vacated by the recent passing of Board member Paul Rickard begins now, and ends June 30, 2018. Vote totals were as follows: 

  • Alfred Gibbs – 621
  • James M. Emery, Jr. – 658
  • John Odland – 686
  • Joseph Geidel - 369
  • Shawn Cahill – 699
