The day after his Class of 2017 commencement on June 23, Carlos Forde, a senior captain of Minisink Valley’s boys lacrosse, was named Varsity845 Player of the Year by the Times Herald Record.

Minisink’s boys lacrosse team ended the season with an impressive 15-4 overall record, seizing the Class B Section 9 Championship with a 15-10 win over Warwick, on May 24. Carlos Forde led the way with 8 goals, and was presented with an All-American certificate after the game.

New York state Senator John Bonacic issued a legislative resolution (J2865) in honor of Forde’s achievement, the role of head coach Chad Lakeman in Forde’s Minisink career, and their combined contributions to the school’s tradition of excellence.

All about “the team” and remarkably modest, Forde’s exceptional talent and staggering scoring record (206 goals, 79 assists) have earned him the praise of Section 9 adversaries (see THR article) and breakthroughs for the sport across the region.

Forde is the only player in Section 9 history to be named first-team all-section at two positions (attack and face-off) for 2/3 straight years. At home, he leaves Minisink Valley High School with a record season winning percentage of 77%, and a career winning percentage of 72%.

Before heading to Monmouth University in the fall to play Division I, Forde will coach at a lacrosse camp in July, at the Minisink campus. He will be joined by two other Minisink lacrosse starts who inspired him earlier in his career: Luke Hanson, a freshman at Manhattan College, and Joseph Sessa a sophomore at Yale.
