Minisink Valley’s school transportation professionals are an essential part of the district’s commitment to safety-first.

There’s nothing more important than the safety of our students. In preparation for the new school year, our Transportation Department is conducting two safety refresher courses for bus drivers and monitors.

Safety topics and presentations include preparedness for natural disasters and weather emergencies, a policy and procedures compliance video, idling laws, a review of the children’s booklet, “School Bus Safety is One Bus Stop at a Time” (by the NYS Education Department Office of Pupil Transportation), and an Epi-Pen training that encompasses recognizing medical symptoms in students.

Minisink Valley’s school bus fleet and drivers transport close to 4,000 students across 115 square miles, for a total of more than 1 million miles per year.

According to the National Safety Council, school buses are the safest form of ground transportation.
