Faster than a speeding bullet…. Superheroes are coming your way!

Tickets are now on sale for Ian McWethy’s "Superheroes: With Great Power Comes Ordinary Responsibility.”   Performances are  Nov. 1, 2, 3.  All seats are $5 each on Nov. 1; and $8 for seniors/students and $10 for adults on Nov. 2 and 3.

“Superheroes” is a funny, fast-paced series of vignettes that explore how caped crusaders deal with life in street clothes. Watch for “Batman,” played by Ryan Fogler; “Hawkeye,” the character who first appeared as a villain in “Tales of Suspense #57” and later joined the Avengers in “The Avengers #16,” played by Tobias Enoch; and “Storm,” the character with the power of weather control who first appeared in “Giant-Size X-Men #1,” played by Elizabeth Seger.

Drama Club members promise great performances and as part of that, they are taking on some screenwriting tasks themselves.

On Oct. 1 and 2, actor Joe Bates visited with Drama Club members to speak about screenwriting enhancements to the script. They’re able to do this because the play’s performance license allows students to modify the script to make it uniquely a Minisink Valley performance.

Bates, who recently completed a run in the musical “Little Shop of Horrors” in Elmira, New York, and who holds a screenwriting degree, offered tips and suggestions about the screenwriting process.

“They’re learning from someone who specializes in this,” said Drama Club Adviser Laura Hulle. “He’s working in groups and he’s an avid comic book reader so he’s up on all the latest and greatest. Plus, it gives the kids more ownership in the process.”

Students like Katie Scialabba, a senior, agreed.

“I think it’s important to me because I love writing stories and I love acting,” she said. “I’ve never been able to combine the two and never done any sort of screenwriting before, so it’s a new experience for me.”
