Scholarships 2010-2011

NEW SCHOLARSHIPS

We wish to thank all of the community sponsors, local organizations and private donors for their generous support of our students.

We are very proud of our students' accomplishments. We are fortunate to live in a community which embraces and rewards our students' achievements.

Over the years it has been the support of the community which has allowed many of our students to continue their education. These students have returned and are positive contributing members of our community.

To everyone in the Minisink Family, thank you!

 SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION:

Throughout the school year numerous scholarships become available for our students. There are many kinds of scholarships. Some are local, others are regional or national. Each scholarship has its own specific criteria and procedure for applying. Scholarship information can be obtained by contacting Mrs. Casmus, Assistant Principal or Mrs. Kaczmar, Counseling Center Secretary.

The new procedure for the disseminating of scholarship information is to post all scholarships on the website scholarship page.  Students sign out a scholarship application with Mrs. Kaczmar and return the completed application to Mrs. Kaczmar. Due dates are firm and must be adhered to.

Although parents and students may wish to send in scholarship applications on their own, many sponsors will not accept the application unless it comes with the others from the high school. They insist upon one mailing per high school.

April and May are the primary months for scholarship applications. As many as ten scholarships can be posted per week. It is suggested that the students have their scholarship letters of recommendation, resumes and essays completed prior to April 1.

Additionally, it is expected that students who receive monetary awards, commendations, or scholarships from area agencies, groups, or personal contributors will show their appreciation through prompt letters of response expressing their thanks.

One of the easiest ways for students to find possible scholarships is by using the scholarship search engine at http://www.communityfoundationdc.org/page30020cfm.  By selecting the three search criteria; Current Level of Education, County of Residence and Current High School (if it is listed) you can narrow the list of possible scholarships from sixty-two to only those that are relevant to the criteria selected. Clicking on each scholarship will show you what the specific description/criteria is for each scholarship. For more information call Nevill Smythe at 452-3077.
