Egg Crash Vehicle Design Challenge

Mr. Budd's 8th grade Technology students must design and construct a vehicle that will protect an egg during a collision with a cement wall.  The plans for the frame of the vehicle are designed using a CAD program called AutoSketch.  Students must factor in crush zones into their design.  The vehicle frame is then constructed using balsa wood and other materials.  Along the way students must think about and incorporate a front bumper using a material of their choice, as well as a restraint system for their egg.  Some opt to utilize an airbag also.  Vehicles are run down a ramp that is 8' high on one end by 16' long.  Take a look at some of the photos.
