The middle school’s Odyssey of the Mind team earned a proud second place finish at the regional tournament on Saturday, March 12, in Goshen. Among all the new teams in this year’s competition, Minisink’s middle schoolers secured the highest score in the long-term problem category.

The Odyssey of the Mind program teaches students how to think divergently by providing creative opportunities to solve open-ended problems in a team setting. The annual regional tournament presents these quirky, fun and challenging problems – and their innovative solutions – in a dynamic competition that fuses engineering arts, performance, teamwork and learning.

Coached by Megan Shafer, music/band teacher, the seven Minisink students in grades 6-8 competed in Division II, Problem 3, which involved the creation of a theatrical production.

“As a new team we worked very well together while forming friendships, and the efforts paid off! Our skit was very humorous, and it really stood out to the judges,” Mrs. Shafer said.

Minisink middle school’s team included Josh Wolff, Emma Body, Grady Brunelle, Audrey Cahill, Rebecca Povill, Olivia Lombardo, & Andrew Monahan. The students enjoyed the competition immensely and were very happy and excited with the results.

Congratulations to all!
