JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH

Mrs. Lee's sixth grade science class has begun the exciting adventure of exploring the Earth's interior--after a quick stop by the produce aisle. With the help of the Smart Board, students have completed a plum lab where they dissected the fruit and compared it to the Earth's layers! Some also ventured to eat their first plum.

What can a plum have in common with our planet? Take a look for yourself! Which part of the plum may represent the crust? The mantle? The core? Careful, the temperature of the Earth's inner core is estimated to average 9,800 °F.
