Could you tell a Halloween story in six words? Inspired by Smith Magazine’s Six Word Memoirs project, MVMS Librarian Maggie Spicehandler challenged students to a Six-Word Halloween Story Contest. She received 88 chilling entries that are still haunting the walls of a school hallway.

CONGRATULATIONS to the winners:

  • 1st place: Rebecca Povill, 8th grade ─ “The birds reappeared, hungry for more.”
  • 2nd place: Maddie Lee, 6th grade ─ “Twisted laughs. Piercing screams. It’s Halloween.”
  • 3rd place: Esteban Arias, 6th grade ─ “The mirror blinked, I did not.”

Winners were presented with a trophy and invited to read their 6-word story over the announcements, on Halloween morning. Terrifying!
