Red Ribbon Week

Enrique Camarena was a Drug Enforcement Administration Agent who was tortured and killed in Mexico in 1985. Camarena worked his way through college, served in the Marines and became a police officer. When he decided to join the US Drug Enforcement Administration, his mother tried to talk him out of it. "I'm only one person", he told her, "but I want to make a difference."  He was killed in the war against drugs. The Red Ribbon is worn in honor of Camarena and his fight against drugs.

This week at MVMS, SADD members will be reading the daily announcements. Each day the announcement will be about drug statistics and young people. During the lunch periods, students are encouraged to sign the SADD banner showing that they will make positive choices. All students were given numbered Red Ribbon bracelets. The winning numbers will be announced during morning announcements. Students will receive a prize promoting making positive choices.
