Support the Troops

The MVMS GATES Club has begun its annual Support the Troops campaign, which will run through November.   Put your letters and items into the box near the front desk.

You can donate phone cards, books, nonperishable lightweight snacks, and anything else that you think our troops would like to have.  Books cost a fortune over there. When our troops are finally all pulled out and brought home, the books you have sent to the troops will help the Iraqis and Afghanis with their English, so good books are like treasures over there. The soldiers also love to be able to give small toys to the children in the war zones, like Matchbox cars and Tech Decks.  But of course, the most important thing is letters and cards of thanks and encouragement to our brave military men and women in the Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Air Force, and Marine Corps.  Please show them we still appreciate them. Place the cards and letters in the box on the greeter’s desk. You don’t even need a stamp. The Marine Corps League and K of C are paying for postage.

If you’re wondering whether a toy or another donation is going to be helpful, just remember, it should be lightweight. Brand new toys of any size that you donate that aren’t mailed to the troops will go to the Marine Corps League’s Toys for Tots program for poor American children. You can leave the toys in the same box in which you leave the gifts for our troops.    Thank you.
