GATES Club Members Donate

The members of the Minisink Valley Middle School GATES Club are donating
20% of their income from the Holiday Regift Sale to the Guild of St. Margaret
Soup Kitchen. After a vote conducted by the club's treasurer, 8th grader
Adam Trollinger, the Gifted And Talented for Experience and Service group decided to donate $120.00 in keeping with the club's mission: Since the beginning of the school year, the GATES Club members have cleaned and weeded the school's courtyard and its memorial to Caitlin Hammeren, attended two creative after-school seminars, tutored students during study halls and after school. They have funded and held various holiday parties for  BOCES students who attend the program in one wing of the middle school and have visited their BOCES Buddies in this one-to-one peer friendship program. In addition, they have shopped together in Middletown for children they sponsored for Christmas gifts through Minisink Cares and then joined their parents for dinner at the Galleria Food Court.
The students in GATES will participate in an induction ceremony and pot-luck dinner with their parents on January 30. Charter members of this service and honor society, which was started in September of 2007, will induct their younger peers into the club in a candle-lit ceremony. Symbolically, the students will walk through a set of gates they design and build. Music will be provided by the MVMS jazz band.
