Pasta For Pennies Success!

The Minisink Valley Middle School has raised over $6,000.00 over the last month for Pasta for Pennies, a program that helps aid those children with leukemia and lymphoma.  The program, which ran from March 16th until April 3rd, encouraged students and faculty to bring in any loose change they might have.  What started out as basic fundraiser to help those in need, quickly became a fierce competition between classes.

The building principal, Mr. Michael Giardina, volunteered his own hair if students could raise $3,500.00.  Not only did middle school students reach that goal, they far surpassed it.  On Monday, April 6, 2009 Mr. Giardina had to fulfill his promise and patiently sit as Mrs. DeVito, teacher of the winning class, shaved off all of his hair.  Mrs. DeVito‚Äôs class raised over $800, and won the opportunity to claim this victory as their own.  In addition, her class will receive a pasta party catered by Olive Garden.  This was truly a wonderful example of a school working together, along with the community, to raise money for a good cause.
