FRESHMAN BIOLOGY STUDENTS STUDY BODY SYSTEMS THROUGH DISSECTION

Each year, freshman biology classes wait for their first dissection with growing anticipation. Frog dissection day finally arrived this week for students in Mrs. Jordan’s biology 101.

While the activity is not equally comfortable for all students, they all recognize it as an opportunity to elevate their understanding of how organ and body systems work together in one single animal. Dissecting a frog also reinforces and widens learning of biology concepts such as classification and adaptation. Not least of all, students gain new respect for the amazingly complex human body, including their own.
