TURN OFF YOUR TV WEEK IS APRIL 4 - 10!

Some television viewing facts:

  • The average American watches 4 hours and 35 minutes of television per day.
  • A child's lifelong television viewing habits are established by the time the child reaches 2 1/2 years old.
  • Television viewing has been linked to obesity, violence, depression, and poor sleep habits.
  • Children engage in only 40 minutes of meaningful conversation with their parents, weekly.

Otisville Elementary School joins such organizations as the American Heart Association, American Medical Association, and the Children's Literacy Initiative in support of Turn Off Your TV Week.

Please help your child to turn off the television and enjoy other activities such as playing sports or instruments, reading, crafting, drawing, cooking, building, volunteering, etc.  Enjoy your conversations with your child when the DVD's, Wii's, Nintendos, and the abundance of electronic games are turned off!
