Flag Day is a big, much anticipated celebration at Otisville Elementary School. Students, faculty and staff came out at the beginning of the school day to honor our American Flag!  She soared strong and beautiful against the bright blue sky and in the summery breeze.

Gathered around the flag pole in front of the school, a swell of voices recited the pledge of allegiance and sang patriotic songs, under the direction of music teacher, Mrs. Hughes. Echoing through valley, you might have heard the Star Spangled Banner, America the Beautiful, Yankee Doodle, God Bless America and Grand Old Flag.

Flag Day was officially established in 1916 by proclamation of President Woodrow Wilson, and enacted by Congress in 1949. Flag Day marks the adoption of the U.S. flag on June 14 of 1777, as well as the birthday of the U.S. Army, authorized by Congress as “the American Continental Army” on June 14, 1775.

Happy American Flag Day, Minisink Valley!
