KINDERGARTNERS PRACTICE SAFE BUS RIDING

On Wednesday, Sept. 14, kindergartners in Mrs. Brennan, Mrs. Galligan and Mrs. Golden’s classes were the first to benefit from the transportation department’s annual K-1 bus safety training.

“There’s nothing more important than the safety of our students, and we are always seeking ways of enhancing their safe transport to and from school. This training covers all areas of safe ridership with an emphasis on crossing safety, which is particularly critical for younger students who have little or no experience in bus riding,” said Pam Reyer, School Bus Driver Instructor (SBDI) and Safety Trainer who lead a team of bus drivers through the Otisville training.

The K-1 bus safety program includes illustrated presentations and a video screening in the classrooms, followed by guided crossing exercises in the school’s parking lot, where a school bus awaits.

In October, the annual Family Bus Program for K-5 will include bus driver visits to the classrooms to help students make the connection between school and transportation.
