In Mrs. Amatetti's first grade class, the students are learning about Early World Civilizations. They began their unit by locating an area known as Mesopotamia on the world map and discussing how that area is a dessert. The students also discussed the importance of the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers and the use of canals to support farming and development of the city of Babylon. Within the city of Babylon there is a ziggurat which is famous for its hanging gardens. The clever way water was brought to the gardens, in order for them to thrive in a dessert, inspired the students to create a replica to model that incredible feat.  Click on the title to view other pictures of students creating their ziggurats.
