In honor of African American History Month, Mrs. De Angelis's class has been busy learning about slavery and the Underground Railroad.  The children have "lived the life" of a slave named Walter.  They heard what life on the plantation was like, how he escaped from slavery, people who helped him while he traveled on the Underground Railroad, and finally, what it was like for him when he reached freedom!  The children used the knowledge gained from Walter's experience to create their own slave stories.  They have imagined that the year is 1870 and have shared their courageous stories of their journey to freedom!
