Mrs. Marcolina's 5th grade class welcomed local veterans from the American Legion George Smith Post 1607 in Unionville to a special Memorial Day program.  These neighborhood veterans were joined by other veterans who were family members of the students, and were welcomed by a standing ovation from parents and students from both Mrs. Marcolina's and Mrs. Clark's 5th grade classes.  Veterans joined the classes in the pledge and singing of our national anthem; and were then entertained by a 45 minute program prepared and presented by the students.  Mrs. Marcolina's class presented the veterans with hand written letters, poems, stories, and drawings to be given to the soldiers at Castle Point Veterans Hospital.  They also gave the veterans items that they had collected for the Castle Point Food Pantry.  After presenting the veterans with notes of thanks, plaques, and handmade medals, students listened as each veteran shared their experiences in the military.  One veteran even sang a song for the students.  While enjoying a delicious brunch prepared by parents, everyone continued to visit and get to know one another.  It was truly a meaningful day for everyone.
