You must hear it to believe it: A whole concert made up of original songs composed by Intermediate School students in grades 3-5. Yes, in just a few short weeks, Minisink Valley’s new Songwriters’ Club has put together a repertoire of showtime-ready songs to offer in concert to their community on Friday, May 31, at 5:30 p.m., in the school auditorium.

“The personal growth I've seen in my students throughout this last month has been remarkable,” said Andrew Fisher, music/chorus teacher and club advisor. “This is a group of kids who choose to bring each other up and encourage each other in a powerful way. They clearly care about each other's work and want to see their peers succeed.”

That is also evident in the students' collaborative creations and song lyrics such as “Stronger Together” by Madilyn Greenberg, Sadie Lambro, Juniper Saleigh, Abigail Mauras, Lexi Castro, and Madison Tvedt.

Fourth-grader Bronnan Rossi, a fan of Bruno Mars, wrote four songs, including one he sings alone accompanying himself at the piano. “I joined the club because I always liked music a lot, and now I can write my own. It makes me happy.” His natural talent is already in demand at home, by his grandparents.

“Leadership qualities and confidence have definitely emerged,” Mr. Fisher said. “As they continue to write songs, my hope is that they will go on to share their talents, inspire each other and perpetuate a culture of positivity.”
