A WINTER BALL: A FUNDRAISER FOR ANIMALS' NEEDS IN WINTER

On Friday, January 22 Mrs. Hoffman's class celebrated Martin Luther King Day and the special relationship of animals and humans.  Along with this celebration Mrs. Hoffman's class did a fundraiser for the Middletown Humane Society. Over 60 pounds of food was donated, along with toys and blankets for animals at the shelter. The class had a special visit from a dog in training with the Puppies Behind Bars program in Otisville. Magnum, and his volunteer handler, LuAnn Haviland from SUNY Orange, came in to talk with the class about service dogs, the importance of volunteering in your community, and our special relationship with animals. The children were also treated to favorite animal poems and a reading of "The Hat," by Jan Bret about a hedgehog in winter, and made a hedgehog craft out of recycled books.
