One group of incoming kindergartners were busy gluing a single button onto a famous bear’s green overalls. Another chatted playfully while building tall structures with colorful blocks.

These twenty students are approaching the successful conclusion of the Step Up to Kindergarten program at Minisink Valley Elementary School, under the guidance of Mrs. Demberg and Mrs. Walker.

After the two-week program, these new students are visibly at ease in their new school environment and eager to talk about the highlights of their experience.

An introduction to cafeteria etiquette during a snack period was a big hit. Also memorable was a visit to the school library and the opportunity to checkout a book of their choice to take home. The school playground was another crowd pleaser, and some students are looking forward to more physical activity in gym class.

“I want to work on my muscles,” one student said. “I want to run around in the gym,” another added.

An energetic K-bunch is on its way!
