TRACK & FIELD PROGRAM: SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

Minisink Valley’s boys and girls track and field teams are off to an impressive start through their first two OCIAA dual meets, and first invitational held at Suffern High School. The team and coaches are confident of continued improvement as the invitational season now resumes, and championship meets kick off at the end of the May.

BOYS TEAM 

  • Juniors Jamie Granata (4:23.22) and Scott Wortmann (4:25.87) finished 3rd and 5th, respectively, in the 1600 meters (roughly one mile) out of more than 100 runners at the Suffern Invitational, on Friday, April 21.
  • Senior and Wisconsin bound thrower Tom Reiser won the shot put and discus in the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association (OCIAA) dual meet against Warwick Valley; he also won the shot put in the OCIAA dual meet against Cornwall; and he finished 2nd at the Suffern Invitational in the shot put.
  • Sophomore Zach Michelitch has scored valuable team points for us by winning both the high jump & long jump in both of our OCIAA dual meets.
  • Junior Ben Hopkins won the 3200 meter run (about 2 miles) against Warwick Valley, while Jamie Granata captured the 1600 meters, and Scott Wortmann won the 800 meters for the Warriors.
  • The relay team of Scott Wortmann, Jude Habert, Nate Mason, and Jamie Granata won the 4x800 meter relay in the OCIAA dual meet against Cornwall. Senior Noah Mason won the grueling 400 meter hurdles. 

GIRLS TEAM 

  • Two of our relay teams were victorious in the OCIAA dual meet against Warwick Valley. Seniors Jamie Polanco, Lily Guardino, O’Livia McIntosh, and freshman Julia Wallace won the 4x800 meter relay. Jamie Polanco, Lauren Fritzsch, Ebony Oenga, and Melissa Faughnan won the 4x400.
  • Minisink’s throwers captured both events in the OCIAA dual meet against Warwick Valley. Junior Julianna Tobin took the shot put with a throw of over 31 feet; Junior Ashleigh Convery won the discus with a throw of over 93 feet.
  • Sophomore Giuliana Sadler won the 800 meter race in the April 4 OCIAA dual meet against Warwick Valley.
  • Suffern Invitational, April 21: Giuliana finished 4th out of more than 50 runners in the 1600 meter run; senior Jamie Polanco finished 10th with a time of 2:28.33; freshman Julia Wallace finished 18th, out of more than 80 runners, with a time of 2:35.46 in the 800 meter run. The girls 4x400 meter relay team, comprised of seniors Jamie Polanco, O’Livia McIntosh, Lauren Fritzsch, and Sarah Smith, finished 5th out of more than 30 teams, with a time of 4:20.24.

  • Tue., May 30: Warwick Fast Times Invitational.

  • Section IX Class A Championships: Fri., May 26, at Middletown High School
  • Section IX State Qualifying meet: Thu., June 1 and Fri., June 2
