GIRLS SOFTBALL CAMP PUSHING 20 AND GOING STRONG

Approaching 20 years in the running, this year’s Girls Softball Summer Camp attracted 45 enthusiastic participants.

In addition to raising funds for the softball program, the camp helps students work on their skills and improve their game. It also provides an employment and leadership-building opportunity for older and former student athletes.

Coaches and Counselors

Head coach Bruce Guyette is especially pleased with this year’s group of counselors and campers.

Camp counselor and modified softball coach Heather Berman has been with the summer program for four years. “This is a great group of kids. We have lots of incoming seventh graders and the camp gives them a chance to improve their game ahead of season tryouts.”

Class of 2017 varsity player Isabella Schaetzle is enjoying the kids, being back in the field, and she appreciates the opportunity for a phased transition out of her high school.

Campers and players

Among campers, fifth grader Jazmin, a.k.a., Jazzy—they all have nicknames—is having great fun with friends and loving the counselors. Kami, a.k.a., Duff, came back this year because the camp will prepare her for fall softball, and she enjoys meeting new people and socializing. Elizabeth, a.k.a., Crow, is on her fourth year with the program and working hard to become a better player. She’s on her way to the middle school and nervous about “lots more work.” Ava S., a.k.a., Smithie, has learned a lot from her counselors and loves the scrimmages at the end of the day. Fourth grader Ava D. highlighted the socialization and her love for fielding. Kathlyn loves lunch time, the jokes, the nicknames, the competition, and the challenges they give each other.
