Minisink Valley High School to transition to remote instruction for all students beginning Tuesday, Dec. 15

As you know, the high school addressed the issue of a student reporting feeling ill while at school today Dec. 14.  It’s important to stress we currently have no confirmation if this illness is COVID-19 related.

But, out of an abundance of caution, and in consultation with the Orange County Department of Health, we have identified the students and staff who have been exposed to this student. Contract tracing is complete.  If you did not receive a call, your child is not believed to have been exposed.

However, the number of staff exposed to this student has impacted the high school’s ability to properly staff the building. It does not impact the ability to provide remote instruction.

As a result, the high school will transition to a fully remote schedule beginning Tuesday, Dec. 15 through Tuesday, Dec. 22, the day before Winter break resumes.

CTEC Students:

  • Morning students will be picked up at their normal morning pickup times for transportation to BOCES.  Transportation home will be provided.
  • Afternoon students: The Transportation Department will call you tonight, Dec. 14, to advise you of pickup time and transportation to BOCES. Transportation home will be provided.  If you do not receive a call, please call 355-5143 in the morning. 

Please note: If you have children in the Middle School, Intermediate School or Otisville Elementary who are in-person, hybrid students, in-person, hybrid instruction continues. Currently, the Elementary School is anticipated to resume in-person, hybrid instruction on Thursday, Dec. 17.

This is important to stress: In-person, hybrid instruction for other buildings could be further modified based on: OCDOH, state and local mandates/guidance; and/or our ability to staff any building because of COVID-19 related issues. It’s important you continue to review all communications sent to you.

I appreciate your continued flexibility and equally know you understand decisions like this are not easy to make. However, they are in the best interest of student/staff health and safety in addition to continuity of instruction.
