Three wrestlers are 2022 NYSPHSAA Division I champions!

Congratulations to Minisink Valley wrestlers P.J. Duke, Zack Ryder and Ethan Gallo, who won state titles at the NYSPHSAA wrestling championships at MVP Arena in Albany on Feb. 26.

P.J. won his second Division I title in the 138-pound weight class; Zack also won his second Division I title in the 160-pound weight class; and Ethan won his first Division I title in the 215-pound weight class.

Additionally, Mikey Altomer finished second in the 172-pound weight class; Eric Tigue finished third in the 152-pound  weight class; and Andrew Filip finished fourth in the 189-pound weight class.

“I am so proud and happy for our whole team and wrestling community on a great year that was just capped off by winning the state title and setting a new team point total,” said Head Coach Kevin Gallagher. “I am also very happy for our three state champs:  P.J,. Zack, and Ethan. They wrestled great. I am also happy for Mikey, who wrestled great and finished second.  Eric wrestled great and came all the way back and took third; and Andrew, who also had a great tournament, and finished fourth. Congratulations to all the guys, great job.”

Minisink Valley also broke a New York State record for individual school points with 155.5 points and led Section IX to the state championship.

“The Warriors rule in wrestling,” added Athletic Director Tim Bult. “They’re a great group, work hard and are deserving of these fantastic achievements.”
