A March 18 update from Superintendent Brian Monahan on the extended school closure

Dear Minisink Valley school community:

As promised, here are some updates on the district’s extended closure activities and plans:

Effective today, March 18, all district buildings are officially closed. We were happy to give students the opportunity to retrieve books, materials and other items to have at home over the past two days, because we knew that would be tremendously helpful.

We are also glad we were able to today supply students who had no at-home devices with devices to use during this time away from classrooms.  Thank you to our outstanding technology team and all of the other staff for their work to make this happen with less than a 24-hour turnaround period.

Effective tomorrow, March 19, there will be minimal staff onsite in district buildings. Please email us with any questions you may have as staff are constantly checking email. Messages will be returned with a 24-hour period, or less if possible. Our staff is already working remotely to ensure the continuity of district operations.

I’m pleased to announce enhancements to our “Grab and Go” breakfast and lunch meal service effective Friday, March 20. Beginning that day, we will deliver meals to identified families who are in need because they do not have transportation.

This will be a porch delivery drop-off only on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and provide two days’ worth of meals at a time. Volunteers will be in compliance with the social distancing requirements by knocking on doors and departing.  In an effort be proactive and prepared, families who believe they will need home delivery should call 355-5897 or email us at schoollunch@minisink.com.

Pickup meal service continues only at Minisink Valley Middle School between 7 and 10 a.m. Monday through Friday in the back of the school at the cafeteria entrance.

Lastly, this bears repeating: Thank you to Minisink Valley administrators, faculty and staff.  Our team is simply the best there is…anywhere.

Please continue to encourage your children to use the materials provided to them to stay current with their studies. We are continuously looking at ongoing opportunities to provide educational materials and meaningful activities to keep your children’s skills in place during this extended school closure.

We will to provide you with updates as they arise. Thank you for your ongoing trust in safeguarding the health, safety and security of your children. We are very grateful.

Sincerely,

Brian C. Monahan
Superintendent
