Based on their outstanding performance scores at the NYS Music Association (NYSSMA) Solo Festival this past June, 13 MVHS musicians and singers were selected to participate in the prestigious Area All-State Music Festival in December.

Tess Lysyczyn
, a junior, will be preforming a bassoon solo. “It’s a real honor and opportunity to be playing with the best musicians in our area,” Tess said. “We practiced a lot, since the beginning of the year, to audition for the June competition. All-State puts us at the highest level of solo performances, and its’ something we can use for college.” Tess plans to pursue music education after high school.
Helen Gromaki, also a junior will perform a trumpet solo at the December festival. “It takes a lot of practice and dedication to get to this point,” Helen said. “So, I’m proud of my efforts, I’m excited, and my family is excited for me.” Which is not to say that the pressure is now off. Playing with the best carries a lot of responsibility, she acknowledged. Helen dreams of becoming a wildlife or environmental conservation patrol officer.
