Local veterans gathered in the high school cafeteria to enjoy the annual Veteran’s Day Dinner hosted by the National Honors Society, on Thursday, Nov. 9. All local branches and family members were invited to come together to honor and remember their time spent serving.

The Veterans Dinner was coordinated by NHS event planner, Meghan Putnam. “This is a very rewarding event, and a great way to give back.” JROTC members presented the colors; Matthew Biddle and Damian Davis sang the National Anthem. Members of the high school band volunteered their time to keep guests entertained all night, performing jazz numbers, as well as patriotic selections.

Most veterans are not new to this annual gathering. “We enjoy this event every year and truly appreciate what these kids do for our community,” on guest said. “With all that is happening in the world, when you see such smiling faces in young people, it helps you to know, we’re going to be okay,” another added.

Danielle Bellettiere, NHS president, welcomed and thanked the evening’s honorable guests: “All of you have given some, and some have given all, but without your own sacrifice, America wouldn't be America: a country full of happy and safely protected citizens.”

NHS students wish to thank guests and volunteers for participating in this special evening, and they encourage everyone to acknowledge and thank or veterans for their service and sacrifice.
