Dozens of middle school students demonstrated kindness in action by participating in a Blanket Making Day for Minisink Cares earlier this month.

Sponsored by MVMS PTO in partnership with the Orange-Pike chapter of Project Linus, the activity involved making no-sew blankets for a fellow peer, in the spirit of the holiday season, and in time for the winter ahead. Highly motivated blanketeers produced 90 blankets, each accompanied by a heartfelt message.

“There is no limit to the ways that we can be kind to others,” said Rachael Cesarz, a seventh grade volunteer. “Kindness can change the lives of others. I am so happy to have this opportunity to make someone smile and show that I care for them.”

The group also created a quilt from squares of material and used markers to imprint thoughtful drawings and kind words. The piece will be donated to another worthy cause on behalf of the middle school community.

Students enjoyed working together with their classmates and celebrated their accomplishment with a pizza party.

Project Linus provides a sense of security and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans created by volunteer community groups and individuals.
