Orange County Government Center in Goshen to host special high school mixed media art exhibit April 1 to 17

Girls with artworkHigh school students in Pattie Hoban-Rich’s Mixed Media class will have their acrylic pour paintings on display in a special exhibit at the Orange County Government Center’s lobby in Goshen beginning April 1 through April 17.

“The kids all did an amazing job and the results are amazing,” said Mrs. Hoban-Rich, noting acrylic pouring is a fun and easy way to create one-of-a-kind works of art.  “We have such wonderful, creative kids here at Minisink Valley.”

Participating students are: Avelina Albornoz, Isabella Balz, Jazzmin Calpin, Kacie Cutler, Janessa Decker, Kalissa Dolson, Jenna Drake, Kaitlyn Drake, Emily Evans, Presley Gurney, Kelsey Harrison, Kris Hermanowski, Megan Hintze, Jonathan Howard, Kiera Janes, Sophie Kowalewski, Kaylee Lawson and Abigail Lofrese.

Presley, a junior who hopes to major in education in college, said she enjoyed learning about the processes needed to be done in order to get the colors to come out as they did.

“I like being able to express creativity in the ways I want to,” she added.

Also participating are: Collin McDaid, Nicole McIntosh, Savannah Morrison, Yilei Qian, Patrick Rich, Alicia Rodriguez, Ryan Rodriguez, Kaitlyn Rojas, Alicia Roy, John Thibodeau, Danielle Vanderkooy and Kaitlyn Wood.

“I think it’s (art class) very therapeutic,” said Ryan, a sophomore who has a possible interest in studying environmental science in college. “And, it gives me a break from worrying about other classes that are more difficult.”

Their art teacher felt community art exhibits give students a sense of pride in their work, because they know others will see their creations.

“It is a wonderful opportunity for their parents and the community to see their art work,” Mrs. Hoban-Rich added. “I think art shows like this also inspire students to create more art work. It is a wonderful thing to get positive feedback from the community.”

Exhibit hours are 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. weekdays. The Government Center is located at 255 Main St. in Goshen.

Special thanks to Justin Rodriguez, assistant to the County Executive for Communications and Media Relations, for making the exhibit possible.
