Patrick Witherow of Port Jervis has been appointed assistant superintendent for business at the Minisink Valley Central School District, effective Oct. 8.

In this position, Mr. Witherow will be responsible for all district’s business operations, including payroll, accounts payable, accounting, benefits, contract negotiation, purchasing, tax collection oversight, transportation, buildings and grounds and food services in addition to financial planning and the development and management of the school district budget and its capital project budget.

Mr. Witherow was the director of business and finance for the Marlboro Central School District for the past six years.  He also held positions with Orange-Ulster BOCES as coordinator of purchasing/purchase agent/accounts payable manager/food service manager. Additionally, he was a production manager for Summit Research Labs in Huguenot.

“Pat brings a wealth of outstanding school district business experience to Minisink Valley,” said Superintendent Brian Monahan.  “His detailed understanding of the role, responsibilities and accountabilities of the business and finance areas of school district operations will be critically important to us as we continue to successfully navigate our way through the ongoing state aid challenges faced by all school districts.”

Mr. Witherow earned an advanced study certificate as a school district business leader from SUNY New Paltz. He received his master’s degree in business administration from Arizona State University in Tempe; and his bachelor’s degree from SUNY Binghamton.

His community involvement includes serving six years as a member of the Port Jervis City School District Board of Education. He is also a past president of the Port Jervis Rotary Club.

Mr. Witherow’s appointment was approved by the Board of Education at its August meeting, following the resignation of Matthew Bourgeois, who announced in mid-August he was recruited by Orange-Ulster BOCES to be its health care plan administrator.
