We are aware, and perhaps you are as well, of a dangerous social media/Tik Tok challenge circulating among students which involves inserting the lead from pencils into Chromebook USB ports to create sparks, smoke, and potentially fire.

Chromebooks are school property assigned to students. Please consider this a strong reminder that this Tik Tok challenge is unacceptable student behavior and would be considered an attempt to damage school property. Any student who attempts to do so will face disciplinary consequences in accordance with the district’s Code of Conduct.

Parents/guardians: This is another reminder about the importance of monitoring your children’s use of social media, including the social media platforms they use and the content on those platforms.

In addition, please use this as an opportunity to speak with your child and remind him/her about how dangerous and serious this action is. Any attempt to make any device short-circuit, smoke, or catch fire is dangerous, especially at a school where it could hurt many others. While we routinely hold fire drills which don’t involve our firefighter partners, an unexpected fire alarm will involve fire and police personnel coming to our campus, taking essential fire and police services away from where they may really be needed.

Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping our schools safe for all.
