Congratulations to the seven High School Spring 2025 varsity sports teams who have been named by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) as Team-Scholar Award recipients.
To qualify as a team, 75% of a team’s average GPA for the season must be equal to or greater than 90%.
At the end of each sports season, the NYSPHSAA honors those teams and individuals that excel in the classroom, and recognizes them for their academic success.
“Academic excellence is essential for a student-athlete’s future, no matter what they do,” said Athletic Director Timothy Bult. “We’re extremely proud of these teams and their commitment to their academic success along with their athletic excellence. These students are wonderful examples of how dedication and hard work pays off. Congratulations to our student-athletes, their coaches and families for their dedicated efforts."
Statewide, these numbers reflect a significant increase from the spring 2024 season, with more than 1,700 additional student-athletes and 100 more teams earning recognition this year.
“Congratulations to the student-athletes for their hard work and dedication in both academics and athletics,” said Dr. Robert Zayas, NYSPHSAA executive director, said in a statement. “We also commend the 583 participating schools for emphasizing the value of education as a key part of the high school experience.”
