weather alert

Minisink Valley school community:

Like you, we’re aware of and monitoring the forecast for extreme heat conditions next week. We continue to follow reputable weather forecasting while knowing there are important district events and testing taking place next week.

Please be advised of the following schedule modifications for the final week of school:

K-8 students

All students will  now be dismissed on a half-day schedule for June 23 through 26. Faculty and staff will continue with a full day.

Dismissal times:

  • Middle School: 10:30 a.m.

  • Elementary schools: 11:30 a.m.

Special notes:

  • Kindergarten Graduation and Fifth-Grade Moving-Up ceremonies will take place as scheduled.

  • A shortened Middle School Field Day schedule will take place.

  • Please be sure to check email and the website for any updates.

High School

The year-end testing schedule continues as scheduled. Currently, the New York State Department of Education has made no changes to the scheduling of morning and afternoon Regents exams and we are required to maintain those schedules.

Special notes:

  • Due to the need for K-8 early dismissals, there will be no midday bus transportation to and from the high school. Students who have morning exams will stay in a cool location after their exam until the afternoon bus runs at 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. unless they’ve arranged for their own transportation home.  Students who have afternoon exams will take the morning bus to school and will stay in a cool location until their exams start.  A limited lunch service will be provided to all interested. Students are welcome to make their own transportation arrangements for either exam.

  • Testing will take place in air-conditioned locations in the building.

  • The 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. bus service will run as scheduled.

  • Please be sure to check email and the website for any updates.

We’re sending early notice of these schedule changes to give you maximum planning time. This combination of very extreme weather conditions, combined with required testing and very important special events, is rarely – if ever – encountered at this time of year. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your good grace and understanding knowing we are maintaining these important schedules while impacting the least number of students.

Thank you for your attention to this important information.
