The Elementary School held its annual Fire Safety Day on Oct. 6, an important day for K-2 students to review important fire safety reminders with the district's firefighting partners and see the vehicles used for a variety of emergencies.

Thank you to the Slate Hill, Johnson and Mountainview fire departments for taking the time from their busy schedules to meet with students.
students and firefightersTeaching and/or reviewing fire safety to elementary students is always important because it gives them important life-saving knowledge about safe practices and fire hazards and builds crucial habits about safety whether at home, at school or elsewhere. Regular education reminders help prevent dangerous scenarios and provide essential skills for dealing with fire emergencies like staying low to avoid smoke, having an escape plan and having an established meeting place to gather if evacuating a home is necessary due to fire or smoke. Knowing this,.and more, can help children react more calmly and effectively if a real emergency occurs because they're familiar with fire safety procedures.
