A fight took place on the court during tonight’s Junior Varsity boys’ basketball game against Washingtonville. The incident lasted approximately 30 seconds. During that time, a small number of spectators entered the court. Security personnel and on-site law enforcement intervened immediately and successfully de-escalated the situation. No injuries were reported.
The remainder of the Junior Varsity game and the Varsity game scheduled to follow were canceled. Security personnel cleared the building in an orderly manner, and the Washingtonville teams returned to their campus without further incident.
We initiated a formal investigation immediately following the incident, and that investigation is ongoing. We expect the Washingtonville School District will conduct its own review.
The district has a zero-tolerance policy for violent behavior, as clearly outlined in our Code of Conduct. Upon conclusion of this investigation, appropriate disciplinary action will be taken for those found to be involved.
