The Minisink Valley Board of Education unanimously adopted the proposed $130,275,178 budget for the 2026-27 school year at its April 21 meeting.
The proposed 2026-27 budget preserves all current academic, co-curricular/athletic opportunities for all students, meaning everything which is in place for this current school year will be maintained in the 2026-27 school year.
This proposed budget includes a 2.85% tax levy increase. This tax levy increase is the total amount of money the district can raise through property taxes. The tax levy increase is below the maximum New York State tax cap levy available to the district. As such, the proposed tax levy is 100% tax cap compliant. The proposed budget needs a simple majority to approve.
The proposed 2026-27 budget also includes the purchase of 10 new school buses: five, 72-passenger buses; four, 30-passenger wheelchair buses along with one Suburban. The cost of these buses is $1,596,251. After estimated total state aid is applied, the net cost is $399,063.
“Responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars is our top financial priority,” said Superintendent Brian C. Monahan. “The Board of Education and Administration began developing this proposed budget last fall and carefully reviewed every component. We provided full transparency throughout this process, which included video recordings of meetings posted on our website. This diligent work resulted in a proposed budget that preserves all student academic, co-curricular and athletic programs.”

Voters will cast ballots on Tuesday, May 19 from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. at two polling locations, depending on their polling district: The Intermediate School Gym A on the district’s Route 6 campus or Otisville Elementary School Library.
