The district welcomed back faculty and 10-month staff today, Sept. 1, in preparation for the first day of school tomorrow, Sept. 2 and the 2026-27 school year.

All 10 and 12- month staff met at the Middle School for a gathering hosted by Superintendent Brian Monahan before various meetings took place and faculty/staff returned to their respective buildings to finalize preparations for Wednesday’s opening day of school.

Superintendent Monahan’s message centered on unity, shared responsibility and appreciation, noting student success is not the responsibility of any one individual or department.

“Education is not just about the final grade, the test score, the graduation, the college acceptance or the career,” he said. “It's about the journey. And we’re privileged to be part of that journey. The students who walk through our doors tomorrow are trusting us with something incredibly important: Their future. Their families are trusting us, too. And I know the expectations are high. They should be. But I also know the people in this room. I know your dedication. I know your professionalism. I know your talent. And I know how much you care. That's why I have tremendous confidence in what we are going to accomplish together.”

Superintendent Monahan spoke about the importance of collaboration, encouraging employees to communicate openly, share ideas, ask for help and support one another. Additionally, He also highlighted the importance of balance and compassion, urging staff to care for their own well-being while being mindful of the demands placed on students and their wellbeing. He encouraged them to remain “present,” listen carefully and recognize when students or colleagues need support while reinforcing that everyday relationships shape a school community.

With a reminder to “stop and smell the roses,” celebrate small victories and focus on the difference educators make in students’ lives, Superintendent Monahan challenged the Minisink Valley team to approach the school year with collaboration, communication, compassion and excellence.
