Emma Grunenberg’s fourth-graders are busy at work being introduced to their new ELA unit featuring the overarching theme of personal narratives! Students began the process by brainstorming their favorite memories of school. During their brainstorming session, students were encouraged to list all of the ideas they could which will later be used in their first writing piece of this school year.
As part of the Intermediate School's ongoing character education curriculum, all students attended DASA assemblies today, Sept. 13. Ask your student about this!
DASA was enacted in July 2010 to promote a safe and supportive learning environment in all public and charter schools, free from harassment and discrimination for students. Under DASA, no student shall be subjected to harassment or discrimination by employees or students on school property, or at a school function, based on their actual or perceived race, color, weight, national origin, ethnic group, religion, religious practice, disability, sexual orientation, gender or other related categories.
Pizza is always a fan favorite in all our buildings, as these IS fifth-graders remind us! Remember, breakfast and lunch is free for all students! Take advantage of this, and free up your time in the morning!
Reminder! The first PTO meeting of the school year is tonight at 6 p.m. in the large cafeteria. The PTO needs volunteers to help with their many upcoming, wonderful events. Can you help?!

Patriot Day is a day of remembrance, and our Intermediate School students were invited to wear red, white and blue today to remember those who we lost and give thanks to the brave first responders who put their lives on the line on Sept. 11.

We will never forget.
“No Day Shall Erase You From the Memory of Time”
---- from "Book IX of The Aeneid" by Roman poet Virgil, which is inscribed on the wall of the 9/11 Memorial Museum in New York City.

Reminder to families: The IS PTO invites all students to wear red, white and blue tomorrow in recognition of Patriot Day.

Who loves recess? Our IS fourth-graders do!
