Elementary School families....Reminder: Tonight is your student's Open House! We look forward to seeing you there!
6 to 6:30 p..m.: Kindergarten/Transitional Kindergarten
6:35 to 7:05 p.m.: First-grade
7:10 to 7:40 p.m.: Second-grade

Nora Fitzgerald and Erin McCawley’s first-graders are getting really good at comparing data from a number path. After identifying the two totals, students found which total was “more.” Students then used the greater than symbol (>) to compare the totals! Ask them about this important math skill!
Our cutie-pie kindergarteners at Otisville Elementary and the Elementary School are learning so much in these opening weeks of school, including how to navigate the lunch line! And, they quickly became really good at doing this, too!
Take a peek at the Elementary School’s recent bus drill and ask your student about what took place!
Bus drills are important for student safety because they help students learn how to respond to emergencies and keep themselves safe. Students are reminded about important evacuation procedures and related emergency equipment, boarding and exiting procedures, seat belt safety and more.
Equally important is each bus driver’s intent to impress upon students the importance of staying calm and listening to directions and helping others when indicated. We have the best transportation team in the business and thank them for the ongoing efforts to provide safe transportation to and from school!

Elementary School Social Worker Kristen Cummings has been giving DASA presentations to all K-2 students. Take a peek at her recent presentation in Jenn DiSimone's first-grade class!
DASA was enacted in July 2010 to promote a safe and supportive learning environment in all public and charter schools, free from harassment and discrimination for students. Under DASA, no student shall be subjected to harassment or discrimination by employees or students on school property, or at a school function, based on their actual or perceived race, color, weight, national origin, ethnic group, religion, religious practice, disability, sexual orientation, gender or other related categories.

The PTO held its "Cheers and Tears" breakfast for new and returning kindergarten parents this morning. It's always a sweet way to help new and returning kindergarten parents get used to having their little ones go to school full time!
Patriot Day conversations took place throughout the district yesterday, Sept, 11, and included even our youngest students! Marjori Bobish's transitional kindergarteners made these beautiful patriotic stars to commemorate the day!

Who doesn’t like having a story read to them? Ian Walker’s second-graders are enjoying hearing Corey Rosen Schwartz’s “Three Ninja Pigs” read to them! Unlike the original tale, the pigs are given responsibility for their misfortune and a chance for improvement. The story has a clear message that success requires perseverance, an important trait everyone must have!
Patriot Day is a day of remembrance, and Joseph Ferara's second-graders were among the many classes district-wide who remembered those we lost and gave thanks to the brave first responders who put their lives on the line on Sept. 11.

We will never forget.
“No Day Shall Erase You From the Memory of Time”
---- from "Book IX of The Aeneid" by Roman poet Virgil, which is inscribed on the wall of the 9/11 Memorial Museum in New York City.

Everyone LOVES recess, especially our kindergarteners!

These attentive Elementary School kindergarteners are learning the rules of "Circle up and give me 5" on their first day of playground recess! Ask them what this means and why it's important!

Say “hello” to two-way messaging and classroom announcements in the Minisink Valley app! With the addition of Rooms, our district app keeps getting better. Parents and Guardians, check your email or text messages for instructions to sign up and access Rooms today!

Our kindergarteners will enjoy their first lunch in the cafeteria this upcoming Monday! But first...they need to learn about important procedures, and they did this today! Remember, the "first" daily breakfast and lunch is FREE to all students!

Know what the color of the lights mean!

Our Buildings & Grounds crew are always happy to assist students during lunch, especially when first-graders need help with ketchup!

Use this handy QR code to download the district's new app!

Thank you to the families who stopped by the Transportation Department's "Meet and Greet" today, Sept. 4! So many K-2 students and students new to the district had the chance to meet their bus drivers and see the buses they'll be taking to school. Parents and grandparents even had a chance to board the buses!
Reminder: Today, Sept. 3, interested elementary school families can drop off their students' school supplies during these times:
Otisville Elementary: 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
Intermediate/Elementary schools: 1 to 2:30 p.m.
