A record 14 Varsity Boys and Girls Indoor Track and Field athletes have advanced to state competition following their wins at the recent Section IX State Qualifier Meet at the Armory Track and Field Center in Manhattan.

The Section IX State Qualifier meet saw state meet berths earned by two relay teams and three individuals, with three event victories on the day for the Warriors.

First-place finishes were earned by Kessler Hirsch in the 55-meter dash; Logan Schupner in the pole vault; and the 4×200-meter relay team of Kessler Hirsch, Sierra Jones, Zoey Terpak and Rihanna Burgher.

This is the second consecutive year that the girls 4×200 team has advanced to state competition. The relay team lowered its program record in the preliminary and final rounds, comfortably outdistancing the field.

Runner-up performances from Gavin Rossi in the 1,600-meter run and the boys 4×200-meter relay squad of Samuel Anderson, Robert Labarbera, John Mattera and Jacob Hernandez also earned state meet berths by achieving qualifying standards.

Joining the relay pool for preliminary rounds at the state championships will be alternates Jayden Beck, Stephanie Cohen and Madison Jellema in the girls 4×200-meter relay and Vincent Soukup in the boys 4×200-meter relay.

The state championships will be hosted by the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island on  Saturday, March 4.
