Building open houses to pivot to virtual open house gatherings

Dear Minisink Valley parents/guardians:

As we’ve previously advised you, the district is remaining very vigilant in safeguarding the health and safety of our students and faculty.   Part of this is keeping the numbers of visitors to our buildings to a minimum, regardless of mask mandates and vaccination status.

Because of this, all fall open houses will now be virtual gatherings. Your student’s teacher will cover all the material that would be covered in a traditional open house setting via a Google Meet link that will be forthcoming to your email, and there will be opportunities for questions.  While we realize this doesn’t allow for a visit to your child’s classroom, we are hopeful we will be able to have larger numbers of people in classroom settings in the near future.

Currently, we are still planning for in-person parent/teacher conferences this fall, conditions permitting, because there will be fewer people in classrooms at one time.

I appreciate your understanding of this change in open house plans, recognizing the Delta variant pandemic issues are modifying some of the things we are doing this fall. In addition to maximizing the health and safety of our students and staff, our equal priority remains ensuring we do everything we can to keep five days of in-person instruction in place.

Sincerely,

Brian C. Monahan
Superintendent
