Four boys varsity wrestlers win Section IX championships; eight boys varsity wrestlers advance to NYSPHSAA state championships

Congratulations to the four Boys Varsity wrestlers who took first place honors at the Section IX Boys Wrestling Championships and will compete in the upcoming NYSPHSAA State Boys Wrestling Championships at the MVP Arena in Albany.

boys wrestling artBased on Section IX’s 2022-23 success, Section IX is able to send the top three place finishers to the NYSPHSAA Championships.  As a result, Minisink Valley will send four champions, two runners-up and two third-place finishers to the state championship on Feb. 23 and 24.

“We’re so proud of our entire team and each wrestler’s will to succeed under pressure,” said Varsity Coach Kevin Gallagher. “Minisink Valley also won in team points over the field, and second place finishers, by over 100 points.”

Added Athletic Director Tim Bult: “Minisink Valley continues to be a powerhouse in wrestling. The team always leaves everything on the mat and demonstrates consistent grit and perseverance.”
